The Clever Badger I'm not dead yet!

Getting started.

Greetings, people.

Trying to come up with a first post that anyone would actually want to read is more difficult than I'd have thought. That being the case, I decided to write a bit about why I feel the need to share my thoughts with the rest of the world.

As a child, I was fortunate enough to have parents and teachers that actively fostered open inquiry and investigation. On the one hand, this led to a lot of disassembled toys with the occasional "extra" piece or two. On the other hand, though, it instilled in me a desire to learn about things and find connections between them. My hope is that by writing some public thoughts, anyone who chances upon this blog might learn something they didn't know before, or find a perspective that they hadn't previously considered.

That's the why. Now for the what.

For whatever reasons, the two areas that have proven most interesting to me personally in recent years are religion (specifically Biblical criticism and history) and biology. As it happens, these areas intersect at the topic of Evolution and Creationism.

Consequently, I expect many (though not all) posts here to address one or more of those areas.

I'd also like to extend my thanks to Dean Anderson, whose blog is linked over on the right. Dean did some excellent work in writing on the Documentary Hypothesis (a theory of composition of the Pentateuch - the first five books in the Hebrew Bible). In particular, Dean split out the various sources from the composite text, so that anyone interested can, for example, look just at the J material. Dean was kind enough to allow me to link over to him, which I think will be a big help if this all goes the way I hope it does.

So, that's the obligatory introductory post. Time to get down to business.

Peace.
