Silence Is The Enemy
Sheril Kirshenbaum at The Intersection, (as well as folks at just about every blog I follow) are working to raise awareness of the Silence Is The Enemy initiative. This initiative seeks to address the horror of mass rape of young girls in war-torn places like Liberia, the Congo, and Sudan. Nicholas Kristof's May 20, 2009 article in The New York Times provides a gut-wrenching account of the problem. It's disturbing to read, and so is Sheril's personal account, but the reality that the girls in those parts of the world have to experience is far worse.

One aspect of this initiative is to raise money for Doctors Without Borders so that they can assist in the care of the victims. If you're looking for a worthwhile cause at which to direct your charitable dollars, this is certainly it.
Read the article. Link to The Intersection. Do something. This won't change on its own.
